WHAT: Yours & Owls 2017
WHERE: Stuart Park Wollongong
WHEN: September 30th – October 1st
HIGHLIGHTS
PARTY BANGERS FOREVER
The Presets proved they’re still at the top of their game, sending nostalgia levels into overdrive with 2008 throwback My People, but up and comer Moonbase put on a live show that’ll see him taking over that headlining spot right before our eyes.
TO THE MOSH
For those wanting to flex their mosh muscles and rip T-Shirts early on in the fest, Trophy Eyes were there to set the perfect balance between unadulterated aggression and straight up pit fun. WAAX, The Pinheads and of course, everybody’s favourite, the almighty Dune Rats sent coasty kids and beat faithfuls in total disarray.
AUSSIE AUSSIE AUSSIE
Hip hop luminaries Illy and A.B Original held it down on the beat front whilst Allday strutted his pop-inflected bangers across the stage like the festival circuit legend he is.
LIVE ART
Live art is an absolute essential for any festival nowadays – Yours & Owls copped the help of the Forever Projects to paint a combo of pop culture murals (Rick & Morty most definitely made an appearance) and street art to gawk at whilst bangers spun and burgers were devoured.
VIBE
Plastered across the main-stage was a banner that read ‘Gronk Free Zone’ and it truly radiated throughout the entire festival. Not a negative vibe was felt and the calming beach must’ve forced a sense of tranquility amongst the often rowdy crowd.
LOWLIGHTS
NOT COOL DUDE
Whoever it was that threw a vinyl at Wavves‘ lead singer’s guitar, forcing them to cut their set short because of technical difficulties…not cool dude.
WTF
Confusion between the location of Northlane and SAFIA‘s overlapping set times left many a metal heads and lovers of crooning indietronica shocked and a little disturbed.
$$
Surged Uber fares after a festival are a non-negotiable. Seeing that 3.5% pop up just as your about to head to your hotel is never fun.
STYLE
EYE POPPERS
The heat, beach breeze and balmy spring air made for an ideal showcase of every shade in the rainbow.
GLITTER BUGS
Let’s face it, most glitter wearers were probably still finding the remnants of their Splendour decorations in their hair and luggage so piling it on for Yours and Owls was a no-brainer. The trend isn’t going anywhere – and hey, it looks great.
SUNNIES
Speed dealers (yep, they’re back in a big way) dominated and oddly chunky goggles kept punters safe from the sun.
