Development for the Hardlight VR suit began on Kickstarter, with the guys from Nullspace Virtual Reality.
Not just playing a game, but feeling it, is where present day gaming is headed. In fact, these bad boys will be delivered to ‘backers’ of the Kickstarter in September.
“If you had asked me last year, I would have guessed that consumer haptic clothing is at least 2-3 years off. NullSpace has made something that is substantially ahead of its time.”
– Ryan Smith, Inverse Studios
So whats all the fuss about?
The Hardlight VR suit boasts 16 vibrational nodes and haptic sensors for you to kick some medieval/alien/otherworldly ass. Basically, muscle zones from the shoulders to arms, upper back and abdomen get their own haptic zone. This provides positional feedback and full body tracking, meaning you can literally feel a sword clash against your armour.
Unlike other similar technology, it’s sweat proof! Lucky you.
Yes, it can be played with standard PC games but obvs VR systems are recommended for the enthusiasts among us. According to Kickstarter, there are 10 game titles already created.
Here’s what the testers are saying:
“Our sight is used to being misled by films or games; we learned to always rethink what we see. With physical feedback it’s different, the feeling is direct and is something we’ve never felt before.”
–Samuel Auzols, Graphic Designer
Boy do Hardlight VR Suits make our childhood memories of Nintendos and PS1 gaming look v. meagre.
