There is always something to do in Sydney, whether you’re just looking for something to do on the weekend, or if you’re craving the best cultural experience Sydney has to offer. Whatever your plan, we have you covered.
Here is a list of the best 3 to check out this weekend.
1. Volumes Festival
First up on the list is the Volumes Festival, a mini festival serving up live music venues, local talent, and small businesses in a day which hopes to bring life back into Oxford Street.
The festival curator, James Spink says that the message behind the event is even more significant this year, with the lock out laws effecting the accessibility of live-music fans to their favourite venues. “It’s not as easily accessible as it used to be – you can’t just bounce around and see different artists” Spink says. And so he hopes the Volumes Festival will be a small way to break through the boundaries created by these restrictions.
if you’re a music fan, this is the place to be this Saturday.
W&W: Around Sydney starting from 7pm. Click here to find out more about venues, performances and to buy tickets.
2. Celebrating 125 years of Strand Arcade
The Strand Arcade, the home to iconic Australian designers and craftsmen is celebrating 125 years since it first opened its doors in 1891. The arcade is the only remaining one of its kind, its form maintained to preserve and honour the 19th century old world charm of Sydney.
The arcade is having a 3-day celebration, with champagne, balloons, discounts and pop-up stores who will be hosting live demonstrations, serving food and even whiskey tasting. There will also be master-classes from craftsmen, ranging from shoe-making to guitar-making.
So if you’re looking for some retail-therapy or a bit of culture-fix, then celebrate with The Strand Arcade this Saturday.
W&W: Saturday August 27 @ 412-414 George St, Sydney.
3. KOOZA by Cirque du Soleil
KOOZA, inspired by the word ‘Koza’ (treasure box in Sanskrit) is an appropriate descriptor for Cirque du Soleil’s newest show. KOOZA is filled with circus treasures, with over 50 performance artists, acrobats and musicians bringing their circus skills such as clowning, acrobatics, juggling and more.
According to Cirque du Soleil, KOOZA “tells the story of The Innocent, a melancholy loner in search of his place in the world. The show highlights the physical demands of human performance in all its splendour and fragility, presented in a colourful mélange that emphasises bold slapstick humour.”
And ofcourse, as with all shows created by Cirque du Soleil, KOOZA is accompanied by a live band featuring a soundtrack that includes 40’s jazz, funk and Bollywood.
With tickets starting at $60 it’s no surprise they’re selling fast, so don’t miss out on the latest by Cirque du Soleil. Click here for more info on tickets and dates.
W&W: Aug 25-Nov 6 @ The Showring at the Entertainment Quarter, Sydney.
