The inner-west is Sydney’s hub of creativity, arts, and culture, culminating in the dynamic interactions of different cultures and worldviews. Marrickville is at the heart of this buzzing node of activity, with a proposal set in place to redevelop Rich St, across ‘three multi-story buildings spanning 13,000 square meters’, transforming the space into a creative arts precinct.

With much of Marrickville’s Victoria Road already awaiting approval for re-zoning, it makes sense that the area, located just behind the Factory Theatre is up for a planned switch up. If you’ve ever caught a gig at the Factory, you’ve probably noticed its slim pickings when it comes to grabbing a drink or feed before and after the show, as well as the fact that the area (of mostly industrial styled buildings) is criminally underused with heaps of potential.

In the official proposal, plans include, ‘catering to around 500 artists, onsite workspace will be flexible to encourage interaction, with the project receiving input from artists and industry leaders from the local community’, which would act as a huge help for those networking and hustling within Sydney’s creative underbelly – this is exactly what we need at a time where it feels like Sydney’s culture may be at constant risk.

It also plans to transform ‘current warehouses and timber yard into public parkland, as well as cafes, an exhibition space, a potential open-air screening space and a rooftop bar.’ Sign us up now.
