The magnitude at which Stranger Things has taken over the pop culture-sphere has been astonishing. Season 2, already smashing streaming records introduced the new character ‘Madmax’ (played by Sadie Sink) who is, in the most 80s way possible, a gnarly display of kickass qualities and an incredible addition to the beloved squad.

If you’ve already binged the 9-episode masterpiece, you know that Max and Lucas share an adorable kiss at their prom, cueing many a puppy love induced ‘nawws’. However, although the very talented Sink made it look completely comfortable, the scene made her ‘extremely stressed’. Not cool.

In a recent interview, Sink revealed that the Duffer brothers purposefully ensured the kiss was unscripted because it made her uncomfortable.

“One of you, I think it was you Ross, you say, ‘Ooh, Sadie, you ready for the kiss?’ I’m like, ‘What! No! That’s not in the script … that’s not happening”

The Duffer Brothers,  have yet to apologise and told Sink that the kiss was ‘her fault’ and it was because she “reacted so strongly to this (the kiss). I was just joking, And you were so freaked out that I was like well, I gotta make her do it now. ” In Hollywood’s current climate, adults asserting their dominance over children to have them perform acts they’re uncomfortable with is a total signifier of underlying social issues. To place a young girl in a sense of extreme discomfort like this is a display of extreme tone-deafness to current values.

Friendly reminder that Sadie is only 15 – if she felt uncomfortable with a kiss, why should she be forced to use her body in that way? This is disappointing.
