On cue, our favourite festival kicked in another new year with all the trimmin’s.
With a ripper line-up, and only a hop, skip, and a jump from beachtopia Byron Bay, Falls did not fail to deliver the goods.
New year’s day was one hot mother of a day, and the crowds arrived just in time to catch some of Australia’s finest indie rockers – The Jezebels.
With festival goers pouring off the buses from the beaches, the afternoon began to swell as Matt Corby serenaded the sweat off our backs, playing a fittingly soulful set to a welcome late-afternoon breeze.
A Fat Yak and a dip in onsite ‘Palm Springs’ provided a much needed interlude before squeezing out to see Pond dishing up their usual psychedelic madness. Mid-set we took it down a notch, heading over to a packed Ta-ku set; soulful, hopped-out beats to the horde.
Back at the Valley stage Violent Soho injected their high-powered mix into the voracious crowd. With water and smiles the organisers and security were careful in making this gig a safe one!
The night was closed out by Melbourne legends The Avalanches, with an array of sampled bliss from last year’s huge release: ‘Wildflower’.
Bye 16, Hi 17.
