The same-sex marriage survey will act as a marker and significant turning point in Australian history for a multitude of reasons. Whatever the outcome, it’ll showcase the unity and passion of young people across the nation, who aren’t afraid to stand up for the rights of themselves, and, their friends and family.
Amidst this time of solidarity and rallying amongst the forward thinkers and accepting members of society, those who remain unphased by progression are still finding ways to express their archaic hatred.
As reported by the Australian Bureau of Statistics, 14 survey envelopes have been returned with razor blades inside, as found by ABS workers.
This comes alongside reports that multiple surveys have been filled with dirt, however, the level of intended hurt the razor symbolizes portrays the disgusting level of misunderstanding and evil that permeates our society. It remains continually shocking and disappointing to witness the lengths individuals will go to support the spread hatred.
The matters have been reported to the federal police for further investigation.
As of Monday, just over 12 million votes have been returned – more Australians have voted in this postal survey than Brits did in Brexit. We are clearly fighting for an important cause that’ll usher in a new era of acceptance and love within the nation.
