It only remained up for a number of hours yesterday morning, but artist Plastic Jesus has confirmed the statue bent over and snorting white lines off the ground, will be resurrected outside of the Urban Outfitters on Melrose this morning in time for the Oscars.
Highlighting LA’s addition to the white devil, and the failed US policy on the war on drugs, PJ has utilised the famous gold statue in one of the most famous streets in America to project himself to the international community.
Not much is known about the artist, taking on social and political themes throughout his stencil and installation art, heavily reminiscent of the infamous Banksy. Renown in the LA community, he gained attention earlier this month for his walled Donald Trump walk of fame star.
The plaque on the Oscars statue reads, “Hollywood’s Best Party” and was given a full official appearance, complete with a red carpet staging, velvet ropes and a security team (who dismantled the piece upon city officials arriving).
