In 1996, it was announced that Nicolas Cage would play Superman in Tim Burton’s cinematic restoration of the DC franchise, Superman Lives.
The film would feature Jim Carrey/Gary Oldman as the villainous Brainiac, a giant spider, TWO polar bears, and scintillating scenes of Lois Lane and Clark Kent in couples therapy.
Superman Lives was going to be the shit.
However, for God knows what reason, the film’s production was cancelled.
For two dark decades, we mourned the loss of an angsty, melodramatic, potentially award-winning Nicolas Cage Superman performance.

While the world had lost hope, Cage himself maintained that he was destined to play Superman. In 2005, Cage and his then-wife Alice Kim welcomed a son into the world, which they named Kal-El (Superman’s birth name).
In 2018, he was proved right. The light at the end of the tunnel appeared and this light manifested itself in the form of an announcement: Nicolas Cage had been cast as Superman in the upcoming film, Teen Titans: Go! To The Movies.
The film will follow the protagonists of acclaimed animated show Teen Titans in their quest to make it onto the silver screen. Executive producer Sam Register said the team were “thrilled” with their star studded cast, which features Nicolas Cage and Lil Yachty.
Admittedly, the animated film (sans Tim Burton) will only feature Cage’s smooth-as-caramel voice. But perhaps this is simply the first step.
No doubt we can expect a live-action trilogy featuring ol’ mate Cage sometime soon.
