So you’re sick of Apple’s planned and perceived obsolescence tactics? Us too.
Enter: The Minimalist Light Phone.
You’ve probably heard of The Minimalists—the evangelists preaching ‘less’ of all things. This means clothes, internet tabs, tech and maybe even shitty friends.
The Minimalist Light Phone may be the first step on your minimalist journey. The purposeful design by Joe Hollier and Kaiwei Tang is merely a white LCD display and numerical keypad. It simply allows call features only, so you can’t hit anyone up in the DM, scroll or swipe right. Thats right, absolutely no apps. Form feeds into function, or lack thereof.
D E C L U T T E R – It’s seeing double spaces in between letters, instead of seeing double. The premise of getting back to basics surrounds the false veil of technology, which constantly heralds ‘enhancement’ our lives, whilst constant connection and stimulation drains us.
It’s designed to help you use your phone less, and anyone who has used a mobile usage tracker knows thats a helluva lot. Like 6 hours a day, a lot. Like picking up your phone 162 times from am to pm, a lot. No lie, a specimen in the REDDS office can verify this.
Acting not as your primary phone, but a second device with the same number, you can still be contactable whilst essentially ‘disconnecting’.
There’s always that person that is on their phone at a social outing, right? Or the one who picks it up in a bout of mindless procrastination?
Don’t be that guy. Leave your smartphone behind.
