I saw ghosts growing up. I’d wake up and see the little fuckers at the end of my bed with their mouths open, chewing biscuits. A few years later, my shrink put me on the drug Risperidone, and I thought it was kind of cool because I sounded out the word ‘spirit’ in a pharmaceutical.
The power in music lies in its ability to etch deep into your consciousness. Pump these tracks, then revisit them in a few years and populate your head with all the ghosts of the now.
Track 1. | 4th Dimension – KIDS SEE GHOSTS
Kanye and Cudi team up with their best track of the collaborative album. Featuring a jazz sample from Louis Prima, this piece becomes a timeless bop, and when the bass drops we’re really taken to the fourth dimension.
Track 2. | Make Out In My Car (Extended Version) – Moses Sumney
This easy breezy tune is perfect for the daily zone out. Moses’ smooth falsetto blends with the instrumentals flawlessly to create an overall heavenly listening.
Track 3. | Rich Sex – Nicki Minaj feat. Lil Wayne
Nicki heads back to her roots with Weezy and hypes us for Queen with this track. It’s rumoured that this single will feature on her upcoming album, and we can expect another release this week featuring Ariana Grande.
Track 4. | Midsummer Madness – 88 Rising
88 is rising by the sounds of this single. The whole team gets together to create levels of vocal range and depth in wavy rhythm.
Track 5. | Project Cybersyn – Ross From Friends
Having just released his latest EP this year, British producer Ross From Friends steps up the pace with new single, Project Cybersyn. The track conjures up a wickedly deep beat that seems to take us on a journey of his most recent experiences.
Track 6. | Feel Good (ft. Khurangbin) – Maribou State
The Maribou State boys are back with some crafty goodness featuring the exotic sounds of Khurangbin. The collab sees the Maribou State norms of a smooth production of instrumentals that includes the mystic chords of Khurangbin and vocal samples to top it off. These two are definitely ones to watch in this year of new music.
Track 7.| FOLD Marimba Echoes RMX – Mall Grab
Dubbed the ultimate king of remixes, Mall Grab gets his hands on FOLD’s (Rob Glassett) track, Marimba Echoes, to show us that the Aussie producer is more than just pop house.
Track 8. | Worship – Golden Features
Anything to come from this anonymous producer is always going to be a #banger. The single features some OG GF antics like his infamous deep n dirty beats taking us back to classics like Guillotine and Tell Me. We can confirm it’s a track to rid of the midweek blues instantly so crank it and listen out for the new album to come.
Make sure to add last week’s mixtape to your weekend playlist – it’s packed full of the year’s best bangers.
