Alex Bartsch has turned you advanced vinyl lovers into novices with his collection of vintage gold. Travelling all over London the photographer found the backdrops to 42 reggae record sleeves taken in London between 1967 and 1987.

Each vinyl is positioned to blend into the unique surroundings of London, showing how the city has changed over time.

Bartsch explains that it wasn’t all easy to find the backdrops in the busy and ever changing city.

‘Some were easy to find while others took months of detective work. I cycled all over the city, from Penge in southeast London to Harlesden in the northwest. There were wild goose chases, and some unexpected finds. ‘

The photographer then goes on to explain the unique feeling when finding the location.

“The best part of this whole process is probably the moment I discover the location of the album cover,” Bartsch says. “It takes weeks, sometimes months, so it’s a great moment when I find it. It’s that eureka moment.”

Bartsch is now transforming his hobby into what we think is the best coffee table book around.
