Sydney is now home to its very own Ksubi flagship store, opening it’s doors on Oxford St, Paddington for all your distressed denim needs this week.
In celebration of its roots, music was provided by local talent with a live performance from PLGRMS, while DJ Rachel May and the Delta Riggs took over the decks.
“Remember when Ksubi was spelt with a T?” Those old enough to remember can recall the rise and fall of Ksubi – the Sydney-based denim and streetwear label with a cult following. Founded in 1999, Ksubi was unfortunately forced to enter into administration in 2010 – but the reign of Ksubi wasn’t over for long.
Rescued by Bleach and Breakwater Capital thereafter, today General Pants Co. owns exclusive global distribution rights for Ksubi. The initial handovers saw the brand struggle to successfully stick its landing in rediscovering its identity, which seemed to translate in the clothes. Under General Pants Co., Ksubi has found itself again.
Looking around the room at all of Ksubi’s support hit us right in the feels. It was hard not to feel sentimental, like watching an angsty and rebellious teen grow up into a cooler and more worldly young adult.
Today, Ksubi is available globally from an impressive selection of premium retailers including Barneys, Kitch, Harrods, Selfridges and Ron Herman.
And now Ksubi’s signature aesthetic is showcased, in all its distressed and deliberately unfussy glory, within the storefront’s beautiful brutalist concrete walls in Sydney’s prestigious ‘Intersection’ shopping precinct.
Catch some of the world’s most influential rocking the irreverent brand, from the likes of Kendall Jenner and Hailey Baldwin to A$AP Rocky, Bryson Tiller and Jared Leto.
So, why is this news so important for the culture? Because, despite it’s trials and tribulations, Ksubi is clearly back and better than ever. Comeback of the century? We think so.
Watch this space for the latest news on the long awaited Travis Scott x Ksubi capsule collection (October ’17 drop). What an A-Team collab.
