In 1970 Pizza Hut started serving up cheesy, greasy goodness, an all-you-can-eat salad bar and the best soft serves in town (sorry Maccas!). That was when Pizza Hut became a legend.

That is, until 1983 when Dominos took them on, and succeeded. They grew in popularity and Pizza Hut saw no option but to pack it’s boxes up.

Sure, there’s a few floating around, but our childhood memories of food-comas in those red Pizza Hut Booths are slowly fading.

So, what was a 90s baby to do? Thankfully, Sydney-based photographer Ho Hai Tran decided he must do something before Pizza Hut disappeared from the world, and from our hearts forever. He went on a worldwide hunt, travelling across Australia, New Zealand and the USA to document the last standing Pizza Hut buildings.

Pizza Hut, known for its two-tiered bright red roof, a design you could spot from a mile away, “might not seem like the most aesthetically compelling structures, but they do ooze a certain charm”, says Tran.

And now, after two years of documenting the heartbreaking fall of the Pizza Hut empire, Tran and fellow Pizza Hunter, Chloe Cahill have brought their findings to Sydney. In an exhibition held at SUNSTUDIOS, Alexandria, the team will be holding an artist talk and a pizza party (of course.)
