In a time where it seems Sydney can’t catch a break for nightlife, the fun police seem to be slowly coming around to the idea that we might actually want have fun past 11pm.

The NSW Government has recently revealed that 20 Sydney venues, inside the lockout zone have been granted the ability to remain open for an extra half an hour each. It’s not much but it’s something?

This means venues granted the extended trade will now be able to call last drinks at 3:30am, rather than 3:00am, with lockouts pushed back until 2:00am.

This is what NSW Racing Minister, Paul Toole had to say about the relaxed laws.

“I’m really pleased with the strong industry response to our government’s relaxation of liquor laws for the Kings Cross and CBD precincts. The extended trading is a key part of our renewed focus on providing diverse night-time entertainment options while balancing the need for community safety.”
