You’re coming back to Australia – which track are you most excited to drop at Sensation?

We have such a big and loyal Australian fan base and we are so grateful for that.  Sensation is such a huge event as well so being part of this means a lot to us.  We have a lot of new music in the pipeline so we are excited to drop a few new songs.  One of them is called ‘Natural Blues’.  We’ve never played it and we we’re going to premiere it at Sensation this year.  Real dance lovers will know this song as one of Moby’s biggest hits, released back in 1999.  Moby asked us to make a new version of this song and to re-release it together.  This song was so big when were teenagers so it was such an amazing experience to work on this project.  It has a lot of energy and we kept the emotional vibe in circa 1999.

How do you keep the momentum up for huge festival sets? Do you change up your set often?

We really look at what’s popular in each city or country we perform.  Of course, we play our regular Showtek bangers but for example, in the USA we play a lot of hip hop, more than we do in Europe.  We do take the crowd and their needs into consideration.  As much as we’re artists and love to play our own music, it’s important to make the crowd happy too.  We always look for a way to make it different every time we play.  This makes it interesting for the crowd but also for ourselves.

What’s the most bizarre thing you’ve ever seen happen at a live show?

Actually yesterday we had a dog in the crowd. We were performing in Chile and there was a Labrador in the front of the stage, he looked like he enjoyed it.  He looked overly excited, his tongue hanging out staring at us.  We’ve never seen a dog during a show and we still haven’t figured out how he got in.

We’ve heard you guys like to party. If you could have a night out with absolutely anyone…. who would it be, and what would be on the agenda?

It would be fun to go have a night out with Will Ferrell, he looks like fun.  He seems like great guy to hang out with.  That would be a very interesting night…  He might streak and that’s ok.

What are your 5 ultimate party tracks (that’ll take any party from 0-100)?

Based on this summer, these are definitely our top Party Songs…

Kendrick Lamar – Humble

Showtek vs Yo Majesty – Get Club Action Loose (2017 Bootleg)

Destructo – Party Up (Wuki’s GTA Remix)

Showtek – We Like to Party

Cardi B – Bodak Yellow

Where has your strangest night out ended?

Most of our nights out end up eating something weird at a ridiculous hour.

From Tiesto to David Guetta, you’ve worked with some huge artists – who’s next on your list?

As huge Hip Hop fans we would love to collaborate with Drake or Kanye.  They’re amazing artists and it would be a very cool mixture of music to bring those two worlds together.  Besides that, there are also a lot of smaller upcoming artists we believe in, like Brooks.  We collaborated with him on our song ‘On Our Own’ and it did very well.  It’s very important to not only look for who’s hot but also someone who has a lot of potential to invest in the future.   Similar to what David Guetta did with us.  He was playing a lot of our music and he asked us to make a song together which actually happened in Australia.  Our song ‘Bad’ became one of our biggest hits.

Aside from doing intense live sets and producing earth-shaking drops, how do you chill out? Do you binge watch any guilty pleasure reality shows? B-grade movie marathons?

We are both very much into sports and health.  Wouter likes yoga and jogging and Sjoerd is more into boxing and Brazilian Jiu Jitsu.  It’s very important to put your mind somewhere else sometimes just to reset or to get some distance from work because if we are not in the studio, we are on the road doing shows.  It doesn’t matter how much we love to do it, everybody needs that moment alone.  For the rest of the time, we love food.  We spend a lot of time finding nice restaurants while we travel.  Our career brings us everywhere and it would be a waste not to culture ourselves.  Going out for dinners is a big part of touring and if we are not on tour we love to go out as well and spend time with our girlfriends, family, and friends.

You run your label ‘Skink’ that supports heaps of up and coming artists – who’s on your radar at the moment?

We are trying to make a song with a guy called “Say My Name.”  He is becoming very popular in the Trap/EDM scene in the USA and his sound would fit on our label.  We also signed a guy named “ Bloqshot” who is a very promising producer.

Who are you excited to see at Sensation?

We have a lot of friends in Sydney so we invited all of them to the show.  That’s gonna be fun.  It’s been a while since we saw Deadmau5 perform so we’re probably going to see him!  We’re so happy we are part of this edition.  Thanks Australia, Thanks Sensation!  See you there!
