Last week it was announced that Jessica Williams and Phoebe Robinson’s podcast ‘2 Dope Queens‘ had been picked up by HBO to be turned into a series, ready to air in 2018. The show focuses on a diverse range of topics including  relationships,  race and even their home city of New York and have welcomed guests like Jon Hamm and Michael B. Jordan.

The podcast launched in April 2016 and has amassed a dedicated fanbase in a short period of time – indicative of the power of podcasts to captivate audiences with their ability to foster an intimacy and understanding that other mediums simply cannot deliver. Sure radio and blogs have allowed for individuals to engage with conversation like discussion that appeals to their specific interests however,  podcasts  provide the perfect combination of anecdotal, factual, and narrative like discourse 2017 listeners want.

The fact that a podcast can be picked up by a network as influential as HBO is indicative of our content and media landscape today – people are looking towards content that showcases a freedom of thought, target unique and niche interests and are created by individuals who are deeply involved and engaged within the subculture or area of interest they’re discussing.

In the Golden Age of Television and streaming  consumers are hungry for easily accessible and sharable content. Podcast producers are all over social media coverage and totally get their audience needs. It’s fair to say podcasts are seeing their moment in the sun at right now, so, tune in to these must listen programs.
