Entering the YouTube rabbit hole is a journey we’ve all taken at one time or another. Whether you were avoiding a crucial assignment or putting off sending that risky email, the video platform is literally designed to serve your hours of unproductiveness.

Speaking of servings, we know food porn has taken precedence on social media feeds but don’t think for a second the hot girl + junk food formula has ~glazed~ over YouTube. Enter the Mukbang girl phenomenon.

Beginning  in South Korea, (mukbang literally translates to ‘eating broadcasts’ in South Korean) in which women streamed live broadcasts of themselves eating enormous amounts of food and talking to viewers. Apparently the popularity grew in Korea

YouTube as we all know, is BIG business, with advertisers and brands fighting for time featured during or before influencers videos. Famed Mukbang girl Diva, has been known to make up to $9000 a month for her broadcasts whilst Wendy’s Eating Show has accumulated more than 13 million views in its year on the air. Even Aussie lifestyle vlogger, Cartia Mallan (featured above) has jumped on the trend. THE HYPE IS REAL.

Everyone with internet in the last year has been exposed to the wonder that is Tricia Paytas and aside from her usual emotionally fuelled vlogs, she Mukbangs quite a lot too..
