Although our allegiance to Sydney may not be as intact as we’d like it to be (let’s face it, your heart pangs with defeat every time a Melbournian claims the superiority of their southerly city…), signs are currently pointing towards brighter days and wilder nights ahead.

As announced on Monday, the City of Sydney will be enacting a ‘new funding program offering $450,000 in grants’ open to ‘live music venues to make improvements or boost their programming and for businesses across the city to stay open later or increase the diversity of their night-time activities’. Sounds like a step a more creative, colourful and FUN direction to what we’ve been faced with in recent years.

According to the press release, ‘improvements’ could include ‘installing sound baffling materials to manage sound transfer to neighbouring properties or introducing sound equipment or staging support for better internal acoustics’, hopefully subduing the number of embarrassing noise complaint scenarios.

Clover Moore has said that the program is dedicated towards ‘creating a more diverse and dynamic city after dark’, with the grant offering up to $30,000 matched funding per recipient
